With luck shining on our side that Fujisan was so clearly visible , we were so glad that we had planned to spend 4 nights around Fujisan, with 2 in Kawaguchi and 2 in Hakone.
🍃 Address: Fuji Safari Park is located at 2255-27 Fujiwara, Susono, Shizuoka Prefecture 410-1231, Japan
The drive from Lake Kawaguchiko to Fuji Safari Park took us around 30 to 40 minutes and was a relatively short and scenic drive through the picturesque countryside of Yamanashi Prefecture. The boys were babbling nonstop after seeing the video for tbe Park and were so excited for their first-ever encounter with exotic wildlife up close.
🎟️ Admission Ticket Reminder: Before entering the park, we made sure to have our admission tickets on hand to show the guardhouse attendant. This not only ensured a smooth entry but also helped us avoid the hassle of having to pay again at the gate. I would recommend that you purchase your tickets ahead of time as this activity is quite popular! We opted for the option with safari bus tour and I would totally recommend that.
The Jungle Bus has no windows but is covered with steel mesh through which you can feed lions, bears and animals in the herbivore area. Large animals approach the bus seeking food and can be as close as 20 cm to bus passengers! 🦒 Fuji Safari Park is home to over 1,500 animals representing more than 70 species from around the world.
As the Safari bus started its tour through thr Park, the boys were super excited at the sight of majestic lions and cheetah, towering giraffes, and cute bears roaming freely and even approaching our vehicle!
Hengboi even attempted to feed the animals! Remember not to finish all the feeds at the start!
Gotemba Premium Outlet
After leaving Fuji Safari Park, we made our way to Gotemba Outlet. From high-end fashion labels to popular international brands, Gotemba Premium Outlet boasts over 200 stores spread across its expansive grounds. With discounts of up to 70% off retail prices, it’s a shopper’s dream come true.
With so much to see and do, we found ourselves spending three hours, and still, we couldn’t quite cover everything. We took our lunch there as well, and eventually left with a few bags and clothes, and of all things, toys for the boys. Pro tip: Allocate a full day to fully explore everything Gotemba Premium Outlet has to offer.
🌿 Discover Tranquility at Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort & Spa 🏨
As it’s getting late, we decided to call it a day and drove to Hyatt Regency Hakone, where we will be spending our next two nights. We booked a tatami room for our family of 4 and a deluxe twin room with beds for our parents.

💌 Pre-arrival Hospitality: From the moment we booked our stay, the pre-arrival communication with the hotel was exemplary. Our requests were promptly addressed, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, even assisting with dining reservations to ensure a seamless experience upon arrival.
🗻 Location: Hyatt Regency Hakone is nestled in the picturesque town of Gora, approximately a 30-45 minute taxi ride from the Odawara train station. It took us approximately 1 hour from Gotemba outlet to the hotel. For those arriving by train, the nearest station is Gora Station, located just a short distance from the hotel. From Gora Station, guests can take advantage of the hotel’s complimentary shuttle service or arrange for transportation.
🛏️ Room Retreat
As the tatami room was not available during our stay, we opted for the Deluxe Twins Room with a stunning mountain view. Although we had initially hoped for the traditional tatami experience, we were pleasantly surprised by the comfort and charm of our alternative accommodation choice. Guests have the option to change into yukata, traditional Japanese robes, and leisurely stroll around the resort.
🏊♂️ Facilities
There is the Happy Hour at the Living Room, held from 4 to 7 pm, where guests can indulge in unlimited champagne, wine, and a selection of beverages while enjoying the cozy atmosphere by the fireplace.
Additionally, the hotel boasts two large indoor onsen located on the 2nd floor, offering guests a relaxing retreat to unwind and rejuvenate amidst tranquil surroundings.
🍽️ Culinary Delights:
Dining at Hyatt Regency Hakone was a culinary journey in itself. With a variety of dining options ranging from traditional Japanese cuisine to international fare, every meal was a delightful exploration of flavors and textures.
On our first night, we secured a reservation at the Western Dining Room while opting for the Japanese Dining Room on the following evening. We were delighted to be ushered into a private, intimate dining space on both occasions, ensuring a cosy and exclusive dining experience.
