Today, we are headed to the much raved about teamLab planet. This unique digital art museum invites visitors to engage with mesmerizing, interactive installations that immerse you in a world of light, water, and stunning visuals. Located in Toyosu, teamLab Planets is a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable, sensory-rich adventure.
Travelling from Shinjuku Station to teamLab Planet involves a few changes in the train line. From the hotel, it took us about 10 minutes to walk over to Shinjuku Station, one of Tokyo’s major transit hubs. We then boarded the JR Yamanote Line heading towards Shinagawa and travelled to Tokyo Station. This leg of the journey takes about 14 minutes. At Tokyo Station, transfer to the JR Keiyo Line and ride to Shin-Kiba. Next, from Shin-Kiba Station, we transferred to the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line and ride to Toyosu Station, then it’s a 10-minute walk to teamLab Planets. Follow the signs or use a navigation app to guide you. In all, it took us about an hour to travel from Shinjuku Station to teamLab Planet.
What to Expect at teamLab Borderless:
Upon arrival, prepare to remove your shoes and socks, as many of the exhibits involve water. Lockers are available for storing your belongings. The experience at teamLab Planets is designed to be fully immersive, engaging multiple senses as you explore the art.
Highlights Include:
Waterfall of Light Particles at the Top of an Incline: Walk through a flowing waterfall of light that reacts to your presence, creating a serene and dynamic experience.
Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and People: Wade through knee-deep water where koi fish swim around your legs, transforming into flowers upon contact.
Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers: Step into a room filled with digital flowers that bloom and change around you, creating an enchanting, ever-evolving landscape.
Tips for Your Visit:
Wear comfortable, casual clothing: Since you’ll be walking through water, shorts or easily rolled-up pants are recommended.
Plan your visit: teamLab Planets can be busy, especially on weekends. Booking your tickets in advance is advisable to ensure a smooth visit. We pre-purchased our tickets online. It’s recommended to do so as time entry slots may get sold out during peak season. We chose the first few ones of the day and noticed that most people chose earlier slots, too, going by the number of slots left. You can also pair your itinerary with a visit to Toyosu Market which is a short walk away. We decided to give the market a miss as we read that the auction only happens in the morning around 6am and there isn’t much happening after 9am.
Take your time: Allow yourself a few hours to fully explore and enjoy the exhibits.
LUNCH AT LaLaport
LaLaport is a renowned shopping centre chain in Japan and is situated in the vibrant Toyosu district. This sprawling complex caters to a wide range of shopping, dining, and entertainment needs, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. It is about a 15-minute walk from teamLab.
We decided to lunch at this kids friendly restaurant called 100 spoon, which allows you to choose almost all dishes on their menu from full size and half size. The menu offers western and Japanese cuisine.

Did I also mention that baby food is complimentary??
I love shopping centres in Japan because there’s always a play area for children.
The Gundam fanatic guys decided that it’s worth the 30-minute train ride from LaLaport Toyosu to DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba to see the Unicorn Gundam statue at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza. However, as it was already quite late, we didn’t get the chance to see the transformation sequences and light shows and settled for the video to make the guys happy.
We wrapped up the day with Hengboi’s favorite onigiri and delicious ready-made food from 7-11, relaxing in our hotel room with the large TV screen.
