Hengboi used to poop just once a day , in the morning. It was kind of a routine and the timing was great. One week ago, he started pooping 5 to 6 times a day and it caused bad nappy rash which was painful for him when we touch. This link gives a really good explanation on why babies on diaper are proned to diaper rash and the different type of rashes. “
Skin wetness is the common denominator underlying the various causes of diaper rash. friction, raises the skin pH, makes the skin less cohesive, and makes it more permeable. These effects combine to intensify the action of stool enzymes or other irritants that then inflame the skin. In all the above diaper rashes, the outermost layer of skin — stratum corneum — has been damaged. With this protective layer breached, it is easy for microorganisms such as yeast or bacteria to invade the inflamed skin. This makes the rash worse and less responsive to usual treatments.”
The best remedy is to air his butt which we did whenever he was at home. More work for us, cleaning his poop and pee on the floor. His new IFC was way better than the old IFC , the teacher offered to change his pamper hourly to promote faster healing.
I consulted the PD when he was down with flu bug and by the way asked about his sudden change in bowel movement and nappy rash. The PD mentioned that its unlikely due to irritants since there’s no change in his diet and said that it could likely be due to the change in school environment. She mentioned that stress can trigger the gastrointestinal system to be more active. Wow .. I didn’t know.. and the frequent bowel causes the nappy rash.. the timing coincide.. started when he attends the new school and lasted for a month. His bowel movement went back to normal one month later.. and it again coincide with him settling down in his new school (e.g less crying , feedbacks from teacher). I really hope I will not have to change his school again 😪
