Hong Kong

Disney Explorers Lodge — Our Adventure Base for Disneyland Hong Kong

Before we even stepped into the magical grounds of Disney Explorers Lodge, I was already impressed by their pre-arrival email — it included an overview of available resort activities, and useful reminders like downloading the Hong Kong Disneyland app. Through the app, we could easily:

✅ Check Disneyland park showtimes and parades
✅ Make dining reservations across all 3 Disney hotels
✅ Even manage park tickets and queue times

I also dropped them a message to ask if they could provide a simple birthday room decoration for Hengboi2 — and they replied promptly and kindly. A lovely, complimentary birthday set-up was waiting in the room!

✈ Airport Transfer via Klook – Tesla Experience

We booked an airport transfer via Klook, and it was a smooth, fuss-free ride — our first time in a Tesla! (Kids were excited just about that 🤭)

📍The journey took approximately 15 minutes from Hong Kong International Airport to Disney Explorers Lodge.

🛎 Check-In

The moment we arrived, the tropical explorer theme greeted us right away. The check-in area is beautifully decorated with exotic plants, map-like murals, and explorer-themed statues. Staff were cheerful and welcoming — even offering a little activity map for the kids while we waited. Luggage service was smooth and fast.

Disneyland Explorer Lodge

I have to say that this is one of the most kids friendly hotel i have ever been. At check in, i was given a list of baby amenities to choose from. These will definitely be very useful for families with young kids! I requested for a bed guard as we usually share the bed and it’s useful to prevent the kids from falling off the bed!

Disneyland Explorer Lodge Facilities and Activities

🛏 Room Type

We booked a Seaview Room, which comes with 2 double beds and was sufficient for our family of 4. The room had:

  • Jungle explorer touches in the decor
  • Spacious layout for the kids to move around
  • A lovely view of the pool
  • Bed rails available upon request

While it wasn’t themed with Mickey or Princesses, it was adventurous and calm — a perfect place to wind down after a full Disneyland day.

🍽 Dining Options

Refer to this link for a detailed listing of the dining options offered.

Using the app, we made two advance bookings:

🫖 Explorer’s Lodge Afternoon High Tea

We had Duffy and Friends Springtime Afternoon Tea at the World of Color Restaurant. Lovely for a slow afternoon, and comes with a variety of desserts and savory dishes inspired by Duffy and Friends in a three-tiered tea stand

Theres also kids meal avaliable in the ala carte menu and we ordered mac and cheese. It comes with a juice, yogurt, fruits and a small slice of cake.

🍳 Character Dining Breakfast at Dragon Wind

This was a one-time experience for us — great for first-timers or birthdays, but truthfully, it was pricey. You get to meet Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy in adventure outfits while dining on a buffet spread of East-meets-West breakfast items.

There is a kids section that allows the boys to grab their breakfast independently!

🥟 We were hoping to try the Character Dim Sum Lunch at Crystal Lotus (Disneyland Hotel) — but the timing didn’t fit our schedule. It’s something we’d definitely go back for!

💡 Tip: You can also walk to Hollywood Hotel Ink & Plate which is just next door!

🎠 Activities at the Resort

We loved strolling around the resort — the Explorer theme is strong, from gardens representing different continents to animal statues and photo spots!

🎈 There are complimentary activities too!
Here’s what’s available (check with the front desk for the schedule):

  • Kids Go-Kart Racing
  • Arts & Crafts sessions
  • Character Meet & Greets at the hotel
  • Treasure Hunts and Explorer Challenges
  • Outdoor playgrounds and lovely lawns to run around

🏊‍♂️ Facilities

  • Large, themed outdoor pool with shallow area for toddlers (seasonal)
  • Gift shop with exclusive merch (great for last-minute souvenirs)
  • Laundry area and luggage storage
  • Daily resort activities program
  • Shuttle bus to Disneyland (less than 5 mins ride)

It’s very family-friendly and safe — we felt like we were still in Disneyland even back at the hotel.

🧩 Kid Tips & Travel Hacks

Travelling with little ones means keeping them engaged during downtimes — especially on flights and while waiting for meals.

We brought along our Bezecrafts Travel Pod, and it was such a lifesaver! Packed with quiet activities, stickers, mini games, and drawing prompts, it kept both boys occupied during the flight and those long waits at restaurants. Compact and easy to stash into a carry-on, it made transitions a lot smoother and helped us avoid screen time meltdowns. Highly recommend it if you’re flying with toddlers or preschoolers!

Why We Chose Disney’s Explorers Lodge

In the end, we decided to stay at Disney’s Explorers Lodge because it seemed like the perfect fit for our family, especially for the boys. The key factor was the Kids’ Club, which provided them with an exciting, safe space to explore, make friends, and engage in creative activities while we took a breather. With younger kids, having a dedicated area where they could enjoy themselves was a huge plus.

Additionally, the overall theme and atmosphere of Explorers Lodge felt more child-friendly with its fun and adventurous vibe, something our boys could really connect with. The expansive grounds and fun facilities allowed us to relax, knowing there were plenty of kid-focused activities and areas for them to enjoy.

When it came to choosing between other hotels, the added bonus of the Kids’ Club was a game-changer, offering peace of mind that they’d have plenty to do, all while we could unwind. It made the decision much easier, and we were confident it would be a memorable experience for them!

💡 Booking Tip:

  • Compare all three platforms before you book — prices fluctuate depending on dates and availability.
  • If you’re celebrating a birthday or it’s your first Disney stay, consider the official site for the full magical touch.

🌟 Final Thoughts

If you’re planning a full Disneyland experience, Disney Explorers Lodge is a fantastic base — especially with kids. It’s:

  • The most adventurous-themed of the 3 Disney hotels
  • Great for nature and animal-loving kids
  • Plenty of activities
  • Awesome Kids Club
  • A short shuttle away from Disneyland Park

We only stayed 1 night, and honestly, if I could replan it — I’d book 2 nights. The first day was mostly spent arriving and settling in, and we only entered the park on the second day.
