Pre-arrival

Our experience with Hotel Groove Shinjuku started on a positive note with prompt and efficient email communication. All our queries and requests were addressed swiftly, setting the stage for a pleasant stay.

Arrival

Upon arriving at the hotel in the morning, we experienced a hassle-free check-in process. Since our room wasn’t ready yet, we stored our luggage with the front desk. The hotel staff was polite, though the service was not exceptionally remarkable.

The Room

Hotel Groove Shinjuku offers a variety of room types to suit different preferences:

  1. Standard Rooms: These rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, perfect for solo travelers or couples.
  2. Deluxe Rooms: Offering more space and additional amenities, these rooms are ideal for those seeking extra comfort.
  3. Suites: Spacious and luxurious, the suites come with separate living areas and enhanced features.
  4. Japanese Suites: These suites feature traditional tatami-style setups, providing a unique and authentic Japanese experience.

We stayed with three families and booked three rooms. My parents stayed in the Western Deluxe Room, which was perfect for them as the bed was more comfortable. We opted for the Japanese Suite, which features a tatami-style setup—perfect for our family as it prevents the boys from rolling off the bed. In the evening, the staff would lay out the tatami bed, and during the day, they would neatly store it away. The suite includes two toilets, adding to the convenience. One of the highlights for the boys was the big projector screen, providing a cinematic experience right in our room.

But what truly made our stay memorable was the Japanese suite we booked, which was perfect for our family with kids. The suite was spacious and elegantly appointed, with traditional Japanese touches adding to its charm. The highlight for us was the large living space convertible to sleeping space by just taking out the traditional Japanese futon sets, providing a comfortable and authentic sleeping experience for the whole family. I love sleeping on futons as I do not have to worry about the boys rolling off the bed as they always perform kung-fu at night.

What’s more, the flexibility of the room configuration was a game-changer for us. With the option to arrange an additional two futon sets, the room could comfortably accommodate up to six persons, making it ideal for larger families or groups traveling together. We even had a friend who was working in Japan to stay over for a night with us after a late night BBQ session. The restaurant is just right at our doorstep and open till late!

The full-length window overlooking the city in our Japanese suite quickly became a favorite spot for our boys. They would spend a long time gazing out at the mesmerizing cityscape. Read our post on our 16 Days adventure in Japan!

Additional Observations

The only downside of this location is that one morning we saw many litters and vomit on the ground outside the hotel, seemingly remnants of a night of partying. However, it didn’t affect us much and was quickly cleaned up.

Overall, Hotel Groove Shinjuku provided a comfortable and enjoyable stay for our family, with its convenient location, efficient service, and family-friendly room setup. The added excitement of staying in Kabukicho Tower made our experience even more memorable.
