Yokohama, a vibrant city just a short trip from Tokyo, offers a delightful mix of unique attractions, delicious food, and family-friendly activities. Here’s a perfect day trip itinerary from Shinjuku to Yokohama, featuring the famous Cup Noodles Museum, a delicious lunch at the nearby Red Brick Warehouse, and some fun at the Kid-O-Kid indoor playground.
Getting to Yokohama from Shinjuku:
Take the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line or the JR Tokaido Line bound for Yokohama. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes. I purchased the tickets via the EX app. It’s as convenient as scanning the qr code at the gantry without the need to exchange for any physical tickets.
Upon arriving at Yokohama Station, we explored the shopping centres that were connected to the station. One of it is Yokohama Porta – or simply Porta – which is an underground shopping mall on the east side of Yokohama Station. Inside the mall you can find a variety of stores selling fashion, accessories, cosmetics, gifts, and sportswear as well as food stores, restaurants and convenience stores.

Getting to the Cup Noodles Museum from Yokohama Station:
By Minatomirai Line: Take the Minatomirai Line from Yokohama Station to Minatomirai Station. The museum is about a 10-minute walk from there.
Cup Noodle Musuem is an interactive and educational space dedicated to the history and creative world of instant noodles. There are a few segments in the museum:
- Explore the Exhibits: Learn about the invention of instant noodles and the life of Momofuku Ando, the founder of Nissin Foods, through various engaging exhibits.
- My Cup Noodles Factory: Create your own custom cup of noodles. Choose your favorite soup base and toppings, design your cup, and watch it get sealed.
- Chicken Ramen Factory: Participate in a hands-on workshop where you can make ramen from scratch (advance reservations recommended). We did not sign up for this.
There is also a small, cute indoor playground at level 4, CUPNOODLES Park. Sessions are scheduled in 30-minute time slots: 500 yen (tax included), so remember to book your slot at the ticketing counter on the first floor! Hengboi2 couldn’t play as children must be at least 3 years old and 90cm tall.
Lunch at the Red Brick Warehouse (Akarenga Soko)
After the museum visit, we headed over to the nearby Red Brick Warehouse for a our lunch at the food court.
Dining Options: The Red Brick Warehouse features a variety of restaurants and cafes offering everything from Japanese cuisine to international dishes. Enjoy a hearty meal while soaking in the historical ambience and scenic views of Yokohama Bay.
Afternoon: Playtime at Kid-O-Kid Indoor Playground

Next, we brought the boys to burn off some energy at Kid-O-Kid, an indoor playground perfect for children of all ages. Kid-O-Kid offers a variety of play areas including ball pits, climbing walls, and imaginative play zones designed to stimulate creativity and physical activity. I like it that the playground has different zones catering to both boys and that the environment is very well maintained
We had a quick dinner at the mall before returning back to Shinjuku. We took the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line. The journey back to Shinjuku Station takes about 30 minutes and was really convenient.
