During our recent trip to Legoland Malaysia, we opted to stay at Sunway Hotel for the 2nd and 3rd night, just 10 minutes away from the theme park. It turned out to be a best family-friendly stay near Legoland Malaysia, offering spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and great accessibility to nearby attractions like Sunway Big Box Retail Park. With its convenient location, we were able to balance theme park fun with relaxed shopping, dining, and entertainment at Sunway Big Box.

Why We Chose Sunway Hotel
Close proximity to Legoland Malaysia – Just a short 10-minute drive, making it ideal for families with young kids.

Sunway Hotel offers a variety of rooms catering to different family sizes and travel needs:
Deluxe Room – Ideal for couples or solo travelers, featuring a cozy space with modern amenities.
Executive Room – A step up with more space and additional comfort for those seeking a premium stay.
Family One-Bedroom Suite – Perfect for families needing extra space, featuring a separate living area for added comfort.
We stayed in the Family One-Bedroom Suite, which was spacious and comfortable for our family. The suite came with a separate living area, giving us extra room to relax after long days of adventure. The only qualm we had was that there wasn’t a bathtub, which would have been a great addition for the kids after a tiring day at Legoland.
VEP installation at Sunway Big Box
We took the opportunity to install our Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) here, following a recommendation that this location was less crowded even on a Saturday. True enough, the process was smooth and took less than 15 minutes, and we had time to explore the area. The staff was slso very friendly!
What You Can Find at Sunway Big Box Retail Park
Sunway Big Box offers a mix of retail, entertainment, and dining options, making it an ideal place for families to spend a few hours. Here are some key highlights:
1. Retail Therapy for the Whole Family
NSK Supermarket – A well-stocked supermarket where you can shop for fresh produce, snacks, and imported goods
BookXcess – A haven for book lovers, offering discounted books across various genres in a cozy reading space. We bought alot of books which are very age appropriate for the boys!
Watson and Guardians – Stock up your house essentials and medications here!
Night Market – During our visit, we discovered a unique night market where vendors operated from trucks, offering a variety of street food, snacks, and handcrafted items in a lively setting. It’s only avaliable on weekends!
Mr DIY & Mr Toy – Affordable toys, home essentials, and craft materials for both kids and parents.
Sports Direct – Perfect for parents and kids looking for sports apparel and equipment.
Ace Hardware – For those who love DIY projects, this store carries a wide range of home improvement items.
And I’m glad to share this with all parents in need of a massage after a tiring but fun day at Legoland. THERE’ THAI ODYSSEY AS WELL! CHEERS!
2. Dining Options for Every Palate
While the dining options are not as extensive as malls like Aeon Bukit Indah or City Square, the few that we tried were up to our standards.
Takara Teppanyaki – A fantastic Japanese dining spot where we enjoyed sizzling hot teppanyaki dishes prepared right before our eyes. The kids were mesmerized by the chef’s cooking skills, and they loved the flavorful grilled meats and seafood. The restaurant is family-friendly, providing high chairs for little ones.
Fin and Feathers – A unique dining spot serving up delicious seafood and poultry dishes. It was another great family-friendly choice with high chairs available, and our kids especially loved the crispy fish and chips.
Hunt Cafe – We wouldn’t recommend this place. The food felt microwaved, and our dishes arrived cold, making it a disappointing start to the day. There are better options elsewhere in Sunway Big Box.

3. Fun & Entertainment for Kids
Sunway Big Box is incredibly kid-friendly, offering several attractions that make it a great place for young ones to have fun.
Cinema at Sunway Big Box – Featuring the latest movies with comfortable seating, it’s a great place to unwind and enjoy a family-friendly film experience. Visit them at Level 1 and experience Malaysia’s first-ever GSCPlayPark featuring the one and only Popcorn Tower Slide! 🍿🤩 We probably wait till Hengboi2 is older to try this!
Electric Vehicles for Kids – Kids can drive small, battery-operated vehicles around the outdoor space, giving them a fun and interactive experience.
Indoor Train Ride – Inside the air-conditioned area, families can hop on a charming mini train ride, making it an enjoyable attraction for younger children.
Fun Max – A haven for kids, featuring a wide range of claw machines and arcade games.
The other attractions which I find that they are more suitable for older kids:
EnerG X Park – A trampoline and adventure park that let’s older kids jump, bounce, and play in a safe and supervised environment.We did not visit this place as our boys are too young for it!
X Park Sunway Iskandar – One of the biggest draws for families, this adventure park offers go-karting, archery, wall climbing, and an outdoor playground for kids to burn off energy. We did not visit this place as our boys are too young for it!
4. Additional Services – Car Care While You Shop
One of the unique conveniences we discovered was the Caltex station linked to Sunway Big Box, where we were able to pump petrol, wash, wax, and vacuum our car all in one go! It was super convenient to get this done while spending time at the retail park.
Final Thoughts: A Must-Visit for Families
Whether you’re staying at Sunway Hotel while visiting Legoland, running errands like VEP installation, or simply looking for a less crowded shopping and entertainment spot, Sunway Big Box Retail Park is worth a visit. With its wide variety of stores, exciting entertainment for kids, and family-friendly facilities, it’s a great destination for parents looking to balance shopping with fun activities for their little ones.
