On a bright Saturday morning, we decided to embark on a day trip to Johor Bahru. Our mission was simple: to visit MK Curtain and finalize the curtain designs for our new home. We had previously stumbled upon this shop during our 3D2N visit to Johor Bahru (you can read about that trip here) and knew it was worth a dedicated trip back.Given that the kids would need their nap time, we opted to leave them at home with the grandparents. This also allowed us to target an early return before the evening jam. With that in mind, we set off at around 10 am, driving in via Tuas. Fortunately, the traffic was light, making for a smooth and stress-free journey.
Lunch at Good Times Cafe
Our first stop was Good Times Cafe for lunch. The cafe had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed meal. As we settled in, I couldn’t help but laugh at the Chinese stories printed on their cups – a clear reminder of my limited knowledge in the language. It was a fun moment that added a touch of humor to our day.
The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the duck egg kaya, a specialty of the cafe. The rich, creamy texture and unique flavor of the kaya were simply delightful. Paired with freshly toasted bread, it made for a memorable dining experience.

Curtain Shopping at MK Curtain
With our appetites satisfied, we headed to MK Curtain. The staff were incredibly helpful, guiding us through a plethora of designs and fabrics. Their expertise made the process enjoyable and efficient. We took our time selecting the perfect curtains that would complement our new home, confident in the quality and aesthetic appeal of our choices.

Relaxation at Whitewood Spa
After the shopping spree, we decided to indulge in some relaxation at Whitewood Spa, just a five-minute walk away from MK Curtain. The spa offered a serene environment, perfect for unwinding. We opted for a one-hour Aromatherapy Massage, and the experience was nothing short of amazing.
The couple room we were assigned was spacious and well-appointed, adding to the overall comfort. The masseurs were highly skilled, providing a therapeutic and relaxing massage that left us feeling rejuvenated. We were so impressed that we’re already planning to return for their spa package in the near future.

Tea Break at Good Husband Patisserie
Post-massage, we made our way to Good Husband Patisserie for a delightful tea break. The cakes here were not just delicious but visually stunning. We tried the uijicha and pistachio cake along with an iced latte. The patisserie had a charming ambiance with two levels of seating, providing a cozy spot to relax and enjoy our treats.

Grocery Shopping at Jaya Grocer
Next, we headed to Jaya Grocer at Eco Galleria for some grocery shopping. The store had a vibe similar to Cold Storage, making it easy to find what we needed. We ended up buying a 30-egg tray, among other items, and couldn’t help but note that the prices at Aeon are generally more value for money (see our post for our shopping at Aeon).

Quick Stop at Mr DIY
Before heading back, we stopped by Mr DIY to pick up some toys for the kids and household items like a broom set, which was a steal at only $3. It was the perfect place to find a variety of affordable items for our new house.

Heading Back Home
With our errands complete, we pumped petrol and began our journey back to Singapore. Luckily, the traffic was minimal, and we managed to avoid the evening jam.
The day had been productive, relaxing, and filled with delightful experiences. Johor Bahru once again proved to be a fantastic destination for a day trip, offering a perfect blend of shopping, dining, and relaxation.
We look forward to our next visit, perhaps with the kids this time, and exploring more of what this vibrant city has to offer. Until then, we’ll be cherishing the memories of this perfect Saturday in Johor Bahru.
